Hunter Stockton Thompson, better known as Hunter S. Thompson, was an American writer and journalist. He is credited as the founder of the gonzo journalism movement that is written without claims of objectivity, often including the reporter as part of the story. “The Doctor of Journalism,” as Hunter called himself, was also the author of such infamous books as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hell’s Angels: A Strange and Terrible Saga, and The Rum Diaries.
His stories are filled with drug frenzy, use of powerful verbs and extraordinary descriptions, as well as the ability to tell the story like a journalist. However, he was a brilliant passionate and slightly wicked author from which you can learn a thing or two. Here are some writing tips from Hunter S. Thompson that could help you improve your writing.
Steal From Your Heroes
While he was working as a copy boy for the Time during his studies at Columbia University School of General Studies, he used an interesting practice. He would sneak off into a room with a typewriter and rewrite some of his favourite books. These included works like F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and Ernest Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms. By doing so, he wanted to understand and learn the flow of a great writer. You can improve your writing utilising this method. Read out loud as you are typing to hear the fluidity of remarkable storytelling.
This method can help you achieve the following:
- Refine your writing skills
- Exercise your grammar and punctuation knowledge
- Enrich your vocabulary
- Assist you in finding your own writing style
- Help you appreciate excellent word choice
Use Powerful Verbs
Hunter S. Thompson was brilliant at showing his readers was he was seeing with the choice of the verbs. It was even reported by some readers that they had visions themselves just by reding Hunter’s descriptions of hallucinatory drug binges. They’d literally hop in their cars and leave for Vegas hoping to experience some of his descriptions.
Verbs are probably the most important words a writer will ever use. They are literally where the action lies. By using powerful verbs, you can paint a visual image of what’s happening in your writing. Thus, readers won’t just understand your writing, they’ll also feel it. Use unusual verbs, verbs that evoke emotion and reaction in readers. By using them, you’re not just painting a visual picture, you’re giving the readers a chance to step into the scene and have a glimpse into the world you’ve created.
If you’re serious about writing, don’t make excuses and moan about how hard it is. Keep on writing and do it to the best of your abilities. Or in the words of Hunter S. Thompson:
“As things stand now, I am going to be a writer. I’m not sure that I’m going to be a good one or even a self-supporting one, but until the dark thumb of fate presses me to the dust and says ‘you are nothing’, I will be a writer.”

If you find yourself playing a colourful game with retro graphics but the outstanding gameplay, you’ve most probably come across an indie game. Following these norms, the Indie games are almost all the same, with exceptions of course. The AAA titles simply can’t offer the same experience, and since it’s hard to make a top-notch AAA game that will follow the indie standards, these games were rare to find.
Amazing Graphics, stunning story and top design are really expensive to make and since there were not enough indie developers to shift that, it was a taboo up until released, the place where you can find awesome indie games with a lot of versatility and awesome graphics. Check some of the best indie games that are far better than you can possibly imagine.
2009 was a year where the Chilean developer ACE team came out of nowhere and they began shocking the world. They made Zeno Clash and made an outstanding impact on indie games up until that point were just receiving the primal acceleration and not many were found around.
Zeno Clash had sick visuals and still has some of a unique gameplay. A first-person fighting game where you are constantly throwing punches and countering attacks. There are some ranged weapons, but they are of a secondary importance.
You can get Zeno Clash for £9.99 on Steam, and we suggest you start from the beginning as the sequel has worse reviews.
The fresh air that was more than necessary within the Action RPG gender, and although it’s a really short and simple game, it’s still fantastic. Runic games made a game with old values – you don’t need a connection to play the game, you can’t respect the character, there is a plethora of loot all around the map in every corner and hidden inside objects. You will receive absolutely lovely experience, and the boss fights are something that you should look forward to, as they are made absolutely fantastic.
Torchlight 2 is one penny short of £20.00 and can be found on steam. If you are an indie game lover, this is a must try.
Path of Exile
Grinding Gear Games has developed a free Action RPG game that is not so similar to Torchlight 2 and many of the people are explaining it as the perfect free alternative for Diablo III. Unlike Torch 2, PoE needs an internet connection because of the constant changes that are happening on the map, and the online challenges that are frequent.
When graphics are a concern, it’s a nice, solid game, while the gameplay is really slow compared to other action RPG games. Here, you have time to think and plan your best move while the other games require a split-second decision.
Also, in Path of Exile, you can customize your character to a level never seen in an Action RPG before, as the game provides more adjustable options compared to others.

Destiny 2 is a game that forges its own MMO path, and unlike many games from that gender that focus on remaking the same path that World of Warcraft paved for them, they are creating something brand new. And many of the players were aware of this, therefore there were many pre-orders of the game that would eventually set the players one step in front of the others and give them a head start in this amazing game.
If you are in the game a bit later the other guys might be ahead, but it doesn’t mean you should give up and things are hopeless. We are providing you with several essential tips that will make you catch all those that pre-ordered and started playing the game early. Check them out!
Finish the Story
Because of the weight and depth of the game, and many of the versatile things that you can do it like various PvP, patrols, strikes, PvE Raids and many other things, you might get lost in the beginning.
Because of this, many beginners are facing the same problem, and they are never finishing the stories all the way to the end, but the stories should be finished because the experience and the rewards at the end will give you a nice leap in experience and cool items.
The bounties in Destiny 2 are easy to obtain and even easier to pass without you even noticing them. If you are unfamiliar with what bounties are, they are the special missions like defeating x monsters with precision damage, or with a special weapon. Many of the new players are ignoring them, but they give more experience than the normal missions. Always consider taking them.
Get yourself a Mark Strategy
Marks are really important when it comes to playing the game on a professional level, and if you want to achieve faster what you are up for. Depending on your focus on the game, you can choose to focus on different kinds of marks. If you are interested in PvP matches, Crucible marks are your primal choice, while Vanguard marks should be your focus if PvE is the thing that triggers you.
There is always the possibility to go both ways at the same time, but the process would take you double time until you get Legendary gear when you can get two pieces instead of one.
But whatever your choice is, don’t just go like a headless chicken all around, but make a plan so that you can know which events to participate in.
Take a Rest
Destiny 2 is a great game, but no matter how hardcore you are in a game, a 10-15 minutes rest from the game will give you back the focus necessary to continue with a high tempo towards achieving your goal, and in the same time you have an awesome chance of winning a life-changing prize. Come and see for yourself.

Brain training and testing should be an everyday thing, even though we would enjoy spending our time on many other different things. The crosswords in the oldest newspapers are there for a reason, and although spending time reading, playing video games, doing anything else can be fun and you can learn a lot from it, Brain games have something special in them that teases our logic and intelligence.
The Grey Cells in your brain needs stimulation, and we have come up with a list of the games that do it the best – check it out and tell us what you think.
Possibly the best application for brain testing with a collection of many mini-games that cover multiple subjects. Here you can find games that tease your memory, Language, Mental Agility and Attention.
With more than 30 games to play, and a statistical result at the end of the day, Peak offers a nice, but limited daily options. For just £3.99 you can get the full version and have unlimited access to everything that is happening in the app. The statistics will receive additional information, and you can easily track the progress of your work.
The biggest rival for Peak is Elevate – and almost everything is the same except the user UI and experience. There are mini-games inside which you can play, there are results at the end of the day, and a few more categories which include math, focus, comprehension and mental skills.
Unlike Peak, you need to constantly login so that you can track your progress in Elevate, and it also has extra features if you pay for the full version. The guys from Elevate think they are slightly better, so they sell their app for £5.99, but you receive a bunch of new games and you are free of the daily restrictions.
Lumosity is one of the first brain games to hit the market. It is the veteran of the brain testing apps and is used as an example to many other apps. This app offers daily program, selection of several well-organised games, and a stat tracking option, as expected.
You can receive more games and features with £8.99, but make sure you play these apps on a desktop or laptop, as the mobile version of the game is slightly more expensive.
If you are tired of just doing simple and straightforward mathematical tests and physical focus teasers, try Cognito – it is the most game-like from all apps that we mentioned above. It has games that you actually play that keep track of your responsiveness, skills, mental agility and memory, and word mini-games. It uses data from the health apps from Samsung and iOS to count steps and healthy habits to give you the most advanced statistics at the end of a session. According to me, this one is the most interesting one to try, so give it a shot!
